WIS 29 in Brown County is currently being reconstructed concurrently with the US 41 construction. The US 41/WIS 29 interchange is being improved to a multi-level systems interchange with free-flow directional ramps connecting US 41 and WIS 29. WIS 29 and US 41 are both backbone routes and have the highest degree of importance within the state transportation system. Improving the connectivity of this interchange is essential to the continued safe, efficient transportation between major cities of the state.

At the planned US 41/WIS 29 interchange WisDOT is:
  • Constructing a collector-distributor (C-D) roadway for northbound and southbound US 41 traffic between Mason Street and WIS 29. The C-D roadway is a separate roadway paralleling the mainline US 41, providing improved, safe and efficient traffic flow between the closely spaced Mason Street and WIS 29 interchanges.
  • Constructing multi-lane roundabouts at the US 41/Shawano Avenue service ramps, and at County RK, Packerland Drive and Shawano Avenue.
  • Reconstructing the Shawano Avenue interchange to include new high-speed free flow flyover ramps connecting US 41 to WIS 29.

  • To preserve the long term safety and mobility of the freeway facilities, the existing access between the closely-spaced Velp Avenue and the I-43 ramps via US 41 is being eliminated. Atkinson Drive, or an alternate route, will be used to access southbound I-43 from Velp Avenue or to access Velp Avenue from northbound I-43. This change is necessary.

  • Constructing new bridges over the Canadian National (CN) Railroad, Wietor Drive, I-43, and Duck Creek.
  • Eliminating existing access between the closely-spaced Velp Avenue and the I-43 ramps via US 41. Atkinson Drive, or an alternate route, will be used to access southbound I-43 from Velp Avenue or to access Velp Avenue from northbound I-43.
